Candidates should hold a doctoral degree, be in good physical and mental health, and comply with the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China. They should demonstrate rigorous scholarship, strong professional integrity, and high standards of research ethics, and embody the spirit of scientists in the new era. Candidates are also expected to possess a broad academic vision and an innovative mindset, with research directions aligned with the frontiers of world science and technology, the main economic arena, major national needs, and people’s life and health.

I. Young  Talents

The Young Talents Support Plan is a strategic initiative for faculty development at Xi’an Jiaotong University. In response to major national priorities such as disciplinary innovation, basic research, and industry–education integration, as well as the University’s faculty development needs, the Program offers three tracks: the Regular Track, the Basic Research Track, and the University–Enterprise Joint Engineering and Technology Track.

(I) Regular Track

Basic Requirements for Category A Positions

Applicants should generally be under 40 years of age (under 45 for humanities and social sciences). They should have achieved outstanding accomplishments in their respective fields, rank among the top of their peers in academic performance, and demonstrate strong potential to become academic leaders or leading scholars in their disciplines.

Basic Requirements for Category B Positions

Applicants should generally be under 36 years of age (under 40 for humanities and social sciences). They should have shown strong promise in their respective fields, rank among the leading scholars of their peers, and demonstrate excellent academic potential.

Compensation and Support

1. The initial appointment term is six years. These are established faculty positions, with Category A appointed as Professor and Category B as Distinguished Research Fellow. Both are eligible to supervise doctoral students and will be provided with dedicated PhD and master’s student enrollment quotas.

2. Appointees will enjoy a competitive compensation package, including salary, social insurance and housing provident fund contributions, performance-based pay, and income from research and social service activities, as well as additional living allowances and settling-in support.

3. Generous start-up funding for research is provided, including national matching support where applicable.

4. The University provides transitional housing and high-quality education support for children. Its affiliated hospitals and regional medical centers rank among the best in China, offering comprehensive healthcare support.

(II) Basic Research Track

Basic Requirements

Applicants should generally be under 38 years of age. They should be outstanding young scholars engaged in basic research and original innovation, recognized by peers in the academic community, rank among the top of their peers in academic performance, and demonstrate strong potential to become academic leaders or leading scholars in their disciplines.

Compensation and Support

1. The initial appointment term is ten years. These are established faculty positions. Selected candidates will enjoy the same benefits and support as those appointed to Category A positions under the Regular Track, with priority access to additional support from the University’s internal funding programs.

2. The University provides long-term and stable funding under a lump-sum funding model and a principal investigator responsibility system. No annual assessment targets are set, and selected candidates will receive one-on-one guidance from an expert panel.

Additional Support

 Those selected for provincial-level talent programs will also be eligible for generous one-time living allowances and dedicated research funding. Outstanding candidates in certain disciplines may receive additional special support of  RMB 200,000 per year.

(III) University–Enterprise Joint Engineering and Technology Track

Basic Requirements

This track is designed to cultivate high-level engineering and technical professionals as well as research talent. Applicants for Category A positions should generally be under 40 years of age, and those for Category B positions should generally be under 36. Candidates should demonstrate strong potential to grow into enterprise-level experts, industry leaders, or nationally recognized leading talent in university–enterprise joint appointments.

Compensation and Support

1. The initial appointment term is six years. These are established faculty positions. All appointees are eligible to supervise doctoral students and will be provided with dedicated PhD and master’s student enrollment quotas.

2. The University and partner enterprises jointly offer a competitive compensation package aligned with industry standards.

3. Research funding is provided through a dual-channel support mechanism: the University offers foundational funding, while additional project funding—with no upper limit—may be secured through participation in solving key technical challenges proposed by enterprises.

4. The University provides transitional housing and high-quality education support for children. Its affiliated hospitals and regional medical centers rank among the best in China, offering comprehensive healthcare support.

II. University–Enterprise Jointly Appointed Young Scholars

Basic Requirements

Applicants should generally be under 40 years of age. They should be well aligned with the needs of industrial development and technological innovation, possess strong capabilities in engineering innovation and practical application, rank among the top of their peers in terms of professional achievements, and demonstrate a certain level of academic influence.

Compensation and Support

1. Appointees will be appointed as Distinguished Research Fellows and offered a compensation package no less than that of equivalent positions at Xi’an Jiaotong University, with no upper limit. Partner enterprises will also provide supporting research funding based on actual needs.

2. The University provides transitional housing and high-quality education support for children.

Additional Notes

Some outstanding candidates may also be eligible for special government support funds or funding from dedicated talent programs. Those selected for provincial-level talent programs may further receive generous one-time living allowances and dedicated research funding.

III.Outstanding Young Scholars /Postdoctoral Researchers

Basic Requirements

Applicants should generally have obtained their doctoral degree within the past three years, be under 32 years of age, have already demonstrated strong research achievements in their respective fields, and show excellent potential for future academic development.

Compensation and Support

1. The University offers a competitive compensation package, including salary, social insurance and housing provident fund contributions, performance-based pay, and income from research and social service activities.

2. Appointees are eligible to apply for the University’s Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities.

3. Appointees may apply to rent the University’s talent apartments or receive a housing subsidy.

4. During the appointment term, appointees may enjoy the University’s policies on children’s school enrollment.

5. Those who successfully complete the term assessment and meet the requirements for the University’s talent programs or for promotion to senior professional positions may apply for corresponding positions at Xi’an Jiaotong University.

6. Those selected for provincial-level talent programs may further receive generous one-time living allowances and dedicated research funding.
